Changes in Qmail Guide
Hello,
There have been a few changes in the qmail guide as of 3/24/08. The first major change is I have turned off smtp-auth on port 25. The reason for this change is very simple; If you have your users sending mail on port 25 and you try to enable things like RBLs, jgreylist and validrcptto, your clients email programs may eventually time out on them. They're timing out because each one of these checks causes lag in the sending mechanism. After you finish the "Setting up qmail" part, I have added a new section titled " Setting up SMTP with SSL". This is what your customers will want to use when they are sending mail. This will bypass all the checks and send messages instantly! I know this is a major change in the guide but I think in the long run a lot of people will benefit from this. I know I have.
The second major change is the addition to onchange within the guide. If you know what validrcptto is, then you will love onchange. Typically when you are using validrcptto you have to either run a script or update validrcptto or cron a specific script updating the validrcptto cdb file. In this case onchange does this automatically, If you add or remove a user or domain, onchange sees the change and then updates the validrcptto file automagically! It has to do the the way onchange works with vpopmail overall and esentailly makes things easier for you as a qmail admin.
